It’s unfortunate that our present government is looking at today’s problems with the lenses borrowed from the past. Nawaz Sharif has been perpetually thrown under the fear of being booted out from the august Prime Minister house like he was in 1999. He sees shadow of Pervaiz Musharraf behind every General. This fear is creating hindrance in the functions of the government bodies.

The decisions that should be made by the government are being made at the General Headquarters (GHQ). Quite recently, the Corps Commanders meeting was held at GHQ wherein the Pakistan Army invited the attention of international community to take notice of the barbarism unleashed by the Indian government in Occupied Kashmir. No doubt, the Pakistan army must be praised for such a gesture but it must have been made by the government first. The government did not show comfort for this military’s action.

The PML N governments should rid itself of its apprehensions and take timely steps in the future. It shouldn’t open a front against the army which is an important state institution.

MUBUSHAR ALI SULEHRIA,
