LAHORE - City police yesterday arrested at least nine young men for performing stunts on the back wheel of their motorcycles.

A police spokesman said at least nine separate cases has been registered with the police against the offenders. Police also confiscated their bikes to discourage the deadly trend of one-wheeling. The arrests are part of police crackdown on the young motorcyclists ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Early this week, Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf ordered the police to intensify crackdown against the elements involved in one-wheeling. City police have set up several surprise pickets on the leading roads to intercept the movement of one-wheelers and underage motorcycle riders.

The provincial government has already launched an awareness campaign, urging the parents to keep a check on the activities of their boys and never allow motorcycle-ride to underage drivers.
