Industrial Estate Larkana being developed with Rs1,366.42m cost: Dharejo

KARACHI - Sindh Minister for Industries & Commerce and Cooperative Department Jam Ikramullah Dharejo said on Wednesday that infrastructure of Industrial Estate Larkana was being developed at the cost of Rs1,366.420 million. 
“The scheme envisages provision of infrastructure such as road network, water supply system, drainage system, filter plant, sewerage plant, street lights and other necessary buildings while construction of Effluent Treatment Plant at Site Kotri will be completed in 2022 at the cost of Rs99.688 million,” he said while presiding over a meeting regarding Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2021-22 in his office. Secretary Industries & Commerce Aamir Khursheed, MD SITE Munawar Ali Mahesar and other officers also attended the meeting.
Khursheed briefed Dharejo about ongoing and new development schemes. Dharejo directed the officers to expedite work on development schemes and complete them within stipulated time. He asked them to ensure drainage of rains water from industrial zones on priority basis and also ensure timely functioning of effluent treatment plants in industrial zones.
He added: “I will assign a third party to monitor the quality of development work and if I find any negligence, prompt action will be taken against the officer concerned.” Dharejo said that through industrial development, Sindh government wanted to provide better job opportunities to the youth to minimise pressure on government jobs. “Industrial development is the need of the hour and we must come up to the expectations of the masses,” he concluded.
400 MW dedicated power plant for industrial units to be developed: Minister
Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh has said that Sindh Energy Department, Engro Energy limited and a group of Karachi-based industrialists would soon ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a 400 megawatt electricity generation plant to provide low-cost uninterrupted power to the industrial units in Sindh especially Karachi. 
He said that Sindh government would provide land at Jhampir for this wind and solar-based power plant. This power plant would initially produce 50 MW electricity in the first phase and soon it will be increased up to 400 MW, he added. 
He said that Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) will install a grid and transmission line to supply uninterrupted power to Karachi’s industries from this power plant.
The Sindh Energy Minister said that the legal matters with regard to the MoU have been decided in a meeting held on Wednesday and work on the project will start soon after the signing of the MoU.
