1-tonne bomb seized

PESHAWAR Police on Saturday seized a pick-up truck packed with explosives weighing one ton, thus averting an attack that they said could have caused massive destruction. Police averted the terrorist attack by seizing an explosives-laden vehicle and arresting two suspected terrorists in Kohat district, said a senior police official. It is believed that the terrorists had planned to target various mourners processions during Muharram-ul-Haram in Kohat, where on the very first day of Muharram, a suicide bomber had blown himself at a busy market, leaving 19 people dead and injuring more than two dozens others. Sources said that a vehicle bearing number J-1019 packed with 1,100-kg of explosive material was caught near Bannu Gate post during routine patrolling in the area. Police high ups said that after recovering the explosive material police launched a search operation in the area after confiscating explosive vehicle. Meanwhile, security forces killed 5 militants including two most wanted commanders while two security personnel sustained injuries after a gun battle in Tehsil Matta District Swat. According to military sources, they have been informed by the locals that some armed militants entered from Dir to Chuprial through Peochar. Secuirty forces surrounded the Chupiral hill station. In the meanwhile militants opened indiscriminate firing from a hidden hilly area. As a result two security men were wounded. Security forces replied to the resistance and killed five militants and recovered sophisticated weapons from their possession.
