It has been repeatedly reported in the media that India is building 60 dams on the three Western rivers belonging to Pakistan, which would evidently result in storage of water for hydel-generation power. Pakistan would be the net loser as the water is impounded by India. On the contrary Pakistan is still stuck on the building of a single mega-dam like Kalabagh which could have bailed out Pakistan out of its looming economic and financial problems of monumental proportions. We have failed to build a single mega dam since the past 35 years, which speaks of criminal neglect by successive civil and military rulers that only looked for prolonging their tenures. When do we get a ruler who rises above self to cater to the needs of poor masses? Let us pray to Allah Almighty to send us a truly patriotic leader. DR. MUHAMMAD YAQOOB BHATTI, December 11.
