ISLAMABAD The formation of PML-N in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has stirred ripples of panic in the ruling circles of AJK as a large number of legislators from the ruling Muslim Conference are likely to join PML-N. Sources in PML-N told The Nation that the partys chief Mian Nawaz Sharif is expected to chair a high-level party meeting on the next Sunday to finalise the decisions taken in the organising committees Wednesday meeting. Raja Farooq Haider is reportedly nominated as the president, Sardar Sikandar Hayat as chairman, and Shah Ghulam Qadir as secretary general of PML-N in AJK. However, all these leaders are reluctant to share any details in this regard. Talking to TheNation on separate occasions on Saturday, Farooq Haider, Sikandar Hayat and Shah Ghulam Qadir expressed ignorance over the reports that they were likely to be given key offices. Mian Sahib would decide this, was the unanimous view they shared. Farooq Haider said that PML-N would make sure that those who had politically destroyed Muslim Conference must not pave their way into PML-N. He said PML-N had the support of elected representatives including Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry and it would be in a position to form government in the next years elections. Farooq said Nawaz Sharif would visit Muzaffa-rabad in the last week of December to formally launch PML-N AJK chapter. Shah Ghulam Qadir claimed that PML-N had mustered the support of 25 legislators out of the total 49 in AJK Legislative Assembly and many other legislators would join PML-N soon. Sardar Sikandar said he would continue to support PML-N at every platform. Barrister Sultan Mehmood denied the reports that he had joined PML-N. PML-N is yet to make its presence in AJK and when it would be formed then well see what to do. I have my own party and vote bank so lets see how things evolve. Its too early to say anything, he told this scribe soon after he met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. In addition, as many as five legislators including incumbent ministers in the Cabinet of AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique would reportedly join PML-N in the days ahead. The Friends Group, a forward block in the Muslim Conference, headed by Chaudhry Yousuf is also likely to become part of PML-N while Sardar Yaqoob who heads another forward bloc in the ruling party would either join PML-N or Pakistan Peoples Party. Nine legislators in AJK LA, all of whom elected through direct elections, have joined PML-N. On the other hand, seven legislators, all of whom elected on the reserved seats, support Sardar Attique. PML-N also reportedly enjoys the vote bank of 10 of the 12 Kashmiri refugees seats in Pakistan.
