BAHAWALPUR - The PPP Bahawalpur secretary information said that his party was committed to hold free and fair elections and the general elections would not be delayed.

Addressing the party workers, Muhammad Saleem Bhatti said nobody could even think of delaying elections. The PPP being a political force believed in continuation of political process and would not delay elections, he added. He claimed that his party candidate won the seats vacated by the PML-N candidates in by-elections in Gujranwala, Multan and Vehari. He said that when the PPP came to power in 2008, Pakistan was facing serious challenges. The PPP-led government defeated the enemies of the country with the masses’ support and the armed forces. Though the war was still not over but the backbone of the terrorist organisations had been broken. The PPP paid amounts to clear outstanding dues of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and Balochistan and a new NFC Award was finalized, he said.

Bhatti said that the PPP government always tried to bring changes in the system as the dictators in the past had changed Pakistan from a federation to a state with president enjoying all powers. He said the present government empowered the provinces through the new NFC Award and 70 percent of the national resources have been shifted to the provinces, he said. He said that the government was taking steps to strengthen democracy in the country rather than hatching conspiracies. He said that in the past, the presidency was the hub of conspiracies against democracy and elected governments were sent home.
