LAHORE – City police on Tuesday claimed to have smashed an inter-district gang of robbers by arresting its seven members, who were wanted to the police in several cases of heinous crimes like armed encounters, house robberies, and dacoities.

According to police, following the surge in the incidents of robberies, CCPO Muhammad Aslam Tareen assigned special tasks to DIG (Investigations) Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique and DIG (Operations) Muhammad Tahir Rai to unearth the gangs involved in the heinous crime. A joint team of police officers from Operations, Investigations, and CIA wing of the city police was constituted to smash the most wanted gang. The police team collected particulars of the gang and arrested the criminals during a successful operation. The arrested robbers are identified as Ashiq Jutt, Umair, Umar, Shaukat, Iqbal, Waseem and Musarrat.

During preliminary investigations, the accused confessed to the police that they had robbed a house during a wedding part in Faisalabad district on February 13, and snatched cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables worth Rs 30 million at gunpoint. The same gang looted two more residences in June and May and snatched away cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables worth Rs 5 million. The bandits had a criminal history and the government had announced Rs 300,000 reward as head money on Umair Javed, one of the arrested bandits. Another accomplice of the gang, Khalid Perviaz was killed during shootout with the police in Toba tek Singh district in the recent past, police said. DIG (Investigations) Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team.
