ISLAMABAD – Decision has been taken to remove Petroleum Secretary Dr Waqar Masood from his office owing to differences with Dr Asim, advisor to the Prime Minister on petroleum on LNG project.

The announcement with regard to removal of Dr Waqar Masood as Petroleum Secretary is likely to be made within a few days.

Well-placed sources said Dr Waqar Masood was not in favour of restarting the controversial project as the matter was pending hearing with the Supreme Court. On the other hand advisor on petroleum was adamant on initiating the project again.

Sources said Dr Waqar Masood had refused to work on this project in unequivocal terms. Following blank point refusal from the petroleum secretary Dr Asim Hussain contacted Presidency to seek nod for removal of Dr Waqar Masood.  Sources said Suleman Farooqi, general secretary to President Asif Ali Zardari called several senior officers in the presidency in connection with their appointment as petroleum secretary but all of them refused to work with Dr Asim.

Sources said no officer is ready to join any process of restarting LNG project fearing that this project will come to open as colossal scandal in future and international and local powerful companies have their lucrative interests in this mega project.
