KARACHI – The participants of the 8th Karachi International Book Fair 2012 have demanded the government to encourage the community of Pakistani publishers and as well as Pakistan Publishers and Book Sellers Association (PPBA) for organising more book fairs in the metropolis.  

More than 350,000 people had attended the global educational event while massive participation have witnessed huge business of billion rupees.   

Talking to The Nation, on the last day of the international event, the book-lovers said that conducting such constructive events in the City more than two or three times was really a need of the hour.

Qamber Hussain, a retired senior bank officer, pointed out that the peaceful organisation of the KIBF in the metropolis and the great appearance of the citizens in the event was virtually a civilised respond to various groups of terrorists and extremists that Karachiites were not with their destructive activities because the citizens adore the books and educational activities.    

Faisal Hussain, participating in the event with his family, said that this was the great event especially for children. He pointed out that the yearly organisation of this event will definitely create a soft image about the country in the international community.

It is pertinent to mention here that as many as 320 stalls had been set up in the fair. International publishers from USA, India, Iran, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Germany, UAE and England attended event, organized by Pakistan Publishers and Book Sellers Association (PPBA).

The PPBA has claimed that this year, the trades of the books have broken the all previous records. More than 200 students have participated in the event, while people from every segments of life have participated in the event, included Senior Provincial Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, Federal Minster Dr Farooq Sattar, Haider Abbas Rizvi of MQM, MQM MNA Faisal Sabzwari, Raza Haroon of MQM, senior journalist Ghazi Salahuddin, President Peak Private Schools Association Haider Ali, progressive poet Muslim Shamim and many others.

On the last day of the event Counsel General of Islamic democratic Iran to Pakistan were also present on the occasion. Convener to KIBF, Owais Mirza Jamil and PPBA Chairman Aziz Khalid thanked the citizens for their enthusiastic participation in the event.
