LAHORE - Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) consolidated their position in the NBP Gold Cup Hockey Tournament with another thrashing win over Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) 6-1 here on Tuesday at outer ground of National Hockey Stadium.

It was airlines third victory out of four matches played so far and they are at top with nine points at points table and their chances for qualifying for the semi-finals appear bright. The former national champions led 3-0 at half time by demonstrating higher level of play dominated with collective efforts and most reliable efforts on part of mid field.

Airlines dominance was never in danger in the play and they came with full force in both sessions of the play earning their first goal in the third minute through Inyat Ullah as Nohaiz Malik scored their second goal in the 14th minute with M Irfan shone with a goal in the 23rd-minute goal.

The airlines went into the second half with the same spirit of aggressive hockey and constant penetration which led to another set of three goals which dumped SSGC. Nohazi scored his second goal in the 45th minute and Irfan picked up second goal in the 49th minute and M Imran Khan completed the tally, three minute before the close of the play to leave their opponents in gloom. Arslan Sherazi was the only scorer from SSGC who netted the goal in the 47th minute.
