ISLAMABAD  - Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) held a symbolic walk here on Tuesday to commemorate International Day of Human Rights to raise their voice for equal rights like other citizens. The walk was jointly organized by Special Talent Exchange Programme (STEP) and Telenor Pakistan to highlight challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) which restrict them to spent an independent and empowered life.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Member Planning, Capital Development Authority Syed Mustafain Kazmi said it is right of every citizen to be provided equal opportunities to utilise their abilities and contribute in national development without any physical barriers.

He stated that unfortunately the construction rules are not followed by the organization completely and the required standards for making every building approachable for Persons with Disabilities were usually ignored. Atif Sheikh, President STEP, sharing his remarks said post Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are quite important and concrete steps are needed to get the desired results.

Meanwhile,  Christmas tree, main ritual of the Christmas celebration to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus, creates more charm to the festivity of Christmas with its colourful decorative look. With a few days left to Christmas, the members of Christian community start decorating the evergreen coniferous tree, real or artificial, as a tradition associated with the celebration of Christmas.  The tree is usually decked with different ornaments including baubles, small bells painted gold and silver, stars of different shapes and sizes, pinecones, apples, candies, tinsel and balloons made from glass, metal, wood and ceramic.

An angel and star is often placed at the top of the tree representing the host of angels.

Like other parts of the world, the Christian community living in Federal capital, has also set up Christmas trees at different areas including a major attraction at Blue Area. While the Capital Development Authority (CDA) would also light up a Christmas tree at National Monument in connection with the upcoming Christmas.
