KARACHI – A large number of trade associations’ members of the City staged protest on the MA Jinnah Road on Tuesday and blocked it for an hour.

They were protesting against the cracker attack at Tibet Centre on late Tuesday night. The shop owners are also receiving extortion slips and threats of dire consequences in case of non-payment.

According to details, two men on a motorcycle hurled a grenade at an auto-parts shop, Al-Hilal Motors.

The shopkeepers and traders held protest on the MA Jinnah Road and chanted slogans against the law-enforcement agencies and the government over their failure in providing security to the business community.

During the protest, a large number of public and private vehicles stuck in traffic jam, causing tremendous problems to the citizens.

Leaders of trade associations strongly condemned extortion slips and urged the rulers to play their due roles for providing them security.

He demanded the government to ensure arrest of the culprits and award them an exemplary punishment. On assurance by the law-enforcement agencies, the protesters called off their protest and dispersed after which the road was opened for traffic.

Earlier, in cracker attack shop was destroyed in the explosion.

However, there was no loss of life as the shops there were closed at the time.

The bomb disposal squad and forensic experts collected samples from the spot and later said that the grenade was home-made.
