LAHORE - Three women were killed when a passenger bus, carrying pilgrims, overturned after hitting a truck because of poor visibility amid foggy weather Wednesday, police sources said.
Dozens of pilgrims were coming back after attending an annual festivity at a shrine in the Walton area when they had the accident on Kala Khatai Road. Twenty-six 26 passengers, including women and children, sustained serious injuries. Rescuers rushed to the site and shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital, where the condition of five of the injured was reported to be critical till Wednesday night. Traffic police officials say the road mishap took place because of poor visibility during foggy weather in the morning. The deceased women were identified as Sadia Bibi, Muhammad Bibi, and Rukhsana Bibi. One of the passengers told the police that the pilgrims, all said to be the residents of Zafarwal, district Narowal, were on their home after attending an annual festivity at a local shrine when accident occurred.
Cop injured
A constable wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a picket in Iqbal Town. Police claimed that the cops signaled three suspected men to stop at a picket for routine checking but they opened fire on the policemen and fled away.
