LAHORE - The 3rd Quaid-e-Azam Open Golf Championship endorsed by Shezan International Limited will commence today (Thursday) here at the Lahore Gymkhana golf course.
Speaking at the press conference here on Wednesday, Lahore Gymkhana convener golf Agha Ali Imam, flanked by Wasim Mehmood of Shezan, MS Janjua, captain golf Amir Mehmood and director media Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed, said that this would be the third consecutive year of this championship and since it was named after the ‘father of the nation’, it acquired an emotional touch and extraordinary importance and all stake holders were ensuring that all aspects of the championship were handled and executed in an excellent manner and the competitive activity illuminated the golf scene of the country.
Amir Mehmood said that the most positive aspect of the Quaid-e-Azam Open Golf was that it was open to the top golf professional players of the country. “Every significant champion of the national golf scene has converged to the Gymkhana golf course to demonstrate his brilliance. Top ranked players are determined to come up with amazing golf scores so as to bring joy to all stakeholders associated with this championship and in the process, prove that they are champions of value in this game of skills.”
MS Janjua said that the sponsors Shezan International had offered complete financial support towards holding this event in a grand way and as for Lahore Gymkhana, it had opened up its golf course to all participating professional golfers and sought to enable them to pursue their livelihood in a rewarding way.
Kh Pervaiz stated that for the professional golf players of Pakistan, this event sought to create a prodigious opportunity and ample were the cash prizes for the top performers, besides non cash awards for the participating amateurs. “The prize money is Rs 1.1 million to be distributed amongst 40 top position holders.” Wasim Mehmood stated that Shezan International was proud to be associated with a major sports event which bore the name of the father of the nation. “Shezan will support sports activity with full vigour.”
He said total 220 participants were taking part in the event. “The main trophy is on gross score and the defending champion is Matloob Ahmed of Lahore Garrison.”
