Rawalpindi - The City Traffic Police (CTP) announced comprehensive alternative traffic plan to provide foolproof security to mourners on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) to be observed on December 13.  
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Shoaib Khurram Janbaz unveiled the traffic plan for Chehlum during a meeting held here on Thursday.
He also put a complete ban on parking of vehicles along with routes of mourning processions and near Imam Bargahs to avoid any untoward incident.  
According to the plan, the entrance of all kind of traffic from DAV Road to Fawar Chowk would be banned as soon as the mourning procession would reach at Naya Muhala Chowk. Similarly, the road leading from Committee Chowk to Iqbal Road would also be blocked while vehicles would use Murree Road.
CTP Shoaib Khurram Janbaz said that the mourning processions would be provided adequate security and all the public transport would not be allowed to enter towards DAV College Road and converted towards Pirwadhai and Saddar.
Similarly, all traffic approaching Kashmiri Bazaar from Novelty Cinema would also be converted towards Saddar Transit Camp.
“All the traffic coming from Novelty Cinema would be diverted towards Gunjmandi, Dhoke Hassu, Pirwadhai and Saddar,” he said, adding that a diversion would also be placed on Shah Allah Ditta Road from where all the traffic would be converted towards Dhoke Dalal, TB Hospital, Pirwadhai and Asghar Mall Scheme. Shoaib Khurram was of view that no vehicle would be allowed to go towards Kartar Pura Jamia Masjid Road from Banni Chowk during the mourning procession.
He said that all the traffic coming from Banni Chowk and Link Roads would be converted at a diversion near Roshan Bakery and the commuters reach their destinations by using Liaquat Road and Murree Road via Saidpur Road and Circular Road.
As soon as the procession would start, he informed, a diversion would also be placed ay Hamilton Chowk blocking the entry of traffic towards Dingi Khoe and Bansanwala Chowk.
He said that diversions would also be placed at Bansanwala and Pir Chuha Chowks and traffic would be converted towards Pirwadhai while entry of traffic towards Imam Bargahs Qadimi and Biltastania would also be blocked. The CTO instructed all the wardens, sector in-charges and DSPs of circles to perform their duties with full dedication and commitment and keep the traffic flow smooth on occasion of Chehlum to provide security cover to mourners.
