LAHORE - A group of lawyers locked the main gate of District and Sessions Court as a protest against police for lodging an FIR against them for allegedly beating a sub-inspector on Thursday.

Harbanspura police station sub-inspector Abdul Qayuum came to the sessions court a couple of days ago to submit report about a detainee.

However, his report submission annoyed lawyers who took him out of the courtroom, dragged him and later thrashed him. The officer went to Islampura police station and got an FIR registered against the lawyers involved in beating and thrashing him.

The FIR was registered against Advocate Malik Haider Ali Awan, Muhammad Younas, Waheed Awan, Nasrullah Pasha and 20 other unknown.

On Thursday, the lawyers locked the main gate of the district and sessions court as a protest against the FIR and blocked the entry and exit points of the courts at 9am and this continued until 1pm.

The lawyers also chanted slogans against police officials and Lahore Bar Association (LBA)’s representatives Saleem Ladhi and Ghulam Abbas Sahir.

The incident caused panic among the litigants. The bar representatives also failed to stop protesting lawyers from blocking the entry and exit of the courts’ premises.
