PESHAWAR- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced a reduction in power tariff by Rs 2.32 per unit. Talking to journalists today, he said that provision of cheaper electricity to public was the top priority of the government.

Sharif said, "WAPDA is full of corruption, elimination of which is a difficult task." He added that staff of electricity companies was involved in electricity theft.

He said that attempts to reduce the shortfall in electricity generation were being made with China’s assistance. He also highlighted the projects installed to generate electricity from coal.

He talked about the indirect impact of cheap electricity on different economic variables. He neglected the politics of sit-ins and preferred to portray development initiated by the government.
