LAHORE - Five persons including a seven-year-old boy and his mother died while 10 others wounded critically when a dumber bumped into passenger van near the Babu Sabu interchange in Shera Kot police precincts yesterday evening.
The deceased were identified by police Hamza, 7, his mother Uzma Bibi, 26, and Hassan Raza, 35, and Shakeel Ahmed 25. The identification of fifth person is yet to be ascertained. At least 10 persons were shifted to a hospital with multiple injuries.
An eyewitness told the police that the accident took place because of over speeding. He said the dumper was in high-speed when it smashed into the passenger van all of a sudden.
Rescue workers rushed to the spot soon after the incident and they managed to pull out all the victims from the van after hectic efforts. The van was badly damaged in the road mishap.
The police later reached the spot and impounded both the vehicles. The dumper driver however, managed to escape from the crime scene. The police were investigating the deadly accident.
Child found dead
A four year-old child yesterday was found dead under mysterious circumstances from Altaf Colony in the North Cantonment police area. The body, not identified yet, was moved to the morgue for autopsy.
Some passersby spotted the decomposed body of the child alongside a road and contacted the police by phone.
Police officer Tahir said they were investigating the death keeping in view all aspects of the incident. The Cantonment SP further said that there were no torture marks on the body parts of the victim.
