KARACHI - At least five people were wounded in a gas cylinder blast in an apartment located in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) here on Sunday.

Following the blast, the law enforcers including police and rangers rushed to the spot along with the rescuers of various welfare organisations.

The rescuers transported the victims to Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.

Police said that the victims including Ziaullah, 18, Radha, 65, Sandho, 42, Shela 36, Bazenji, 50, were residents of the flat located in Baddar Commercial, Phase 5, DHA.

Police said that the victim family used gas cylinder at home and cylinder exploded due to unknown reasons.

It is worth mentioning here that number of such incidents have taken place in the last couple of years because the newly-constructed buildings remain without gas connections.

Although Sui Southern Gas Company has lifted the ban after some four years and resumed giving gas connections, still hundreds of buildings are without gas.
