French foreign minister rules out negotiations over brexit deal

There will be no further negotiations over the Brexit deal, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Wednesday.

"Tomorrow she [UK Prime Minister Theresa May] will meet with the heads of 27 countries and governments to tell them about her observations. But there will be no negotiation," the minister said.

He recalled that the vote on the Brexit deal should have taken place in the UK parliament on Tuesday, however the UK prime minister decided to postpone it due to the lack of support for the deal.

"As you know, the prime minister has difficulties in her own party, and a vote of no confidence is scheduled for this evening. Due to this reason we are in a difficult situation. But it doesn't affect our intention to have good relationships with the United Kingdom in the future," the foreign minister added.

A vote of no confidence in Theresa May will be held on Wednesday night, after the UK House of Commons announced earlier in the day that threshold necessary for the no confidence ballot had been exceeded due to the delay of the Brexit deal vote. Many high-ranked government officials, including cabinet members, expressed support to May.
