AC extends Shehbaz Sharif's transit remand

The Accountability Court on Wednesday extended Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif’s transit remand till the National Assembly which is currently ongoing ends.

On Monday, the accountability court in Lahore had granted a one-day transit remand of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president. As Shehbaz’s one-day transit remand ended today, he was presented in court to secure an extension so he can continue attending the NA session.

Accountability court Judge Syed Najmul Hasan heard the jail superintendent’s request and granted an extension in Shehbaz’s transit remand till the NA session ends.

The PML-N president had attended Monday's NA session as he was taken to Islamabad after the court granted his transit remand. The National Assembly resumed its session on Wednesday with Speaker Asad Qaiser in the chair.

Shehbaz, who was arrested on Oct 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, was sent to the Kot Lakhpat jail on judicial remand on December 6 after an accountability court in Lahore dismissed NAB's request for a further extension in his physical remand.
