Here is a little back ground to the news story of the week; Dr Aafia was arrested in Afghanistan in 2008, according to claims of the US government but the government of Pakistan was informed about her on 28-5-2004, a full four years ago, that "someone named Dr Aafia was handed over to the FBI in Karachi in 2003", a fact that was published in our news media the next day, or the day after. The two governments also differ in most of other details of the case. Her case being related to the war on terror, like hundreds of other cases, it is in the limbo as the two governments hold meetings to share intelligence reports and exchange information etc for the usual purpose of obtaining the required reconciliation before the US court gives its final decision on this May 6th. -Z.
