LAHORE Young Doctors Association (YDA) has announced to launch protest if a retired professor or a principal of a private medical college is given the charge of the Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences in near future. In a statement issued here on Friday, YDA has demanded of the Punjab Chief Minister to keep in view the principle of seniority cum fitness and UHS ordinance 2002 and appoint a senior and capable Prof from government sector hospitals as the VC UHS. YDA believes that if the post is given to a Principal of a private medical college then the standard of education would deteriorate and UHS will also become a tool in the hands of mafia just like the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council PMDC. PMA body meeting : The General Body of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore will meet on Saturday with Dr Yasmin Rashid in the chair. The report of activities of two years of PMA Lahore would be presented and a strategy would be finalised to meet the demands of the special salary package and service structure reforms for doctors before the next budget. Other organisations of medics are also being invited to the meeting to evolve a joint strategy on important issues. 11 nurses appointed : The Punjab government has appointed 11 nurses at Services Hospital Lahore to overcome the shortage of paramedical staff at the healthcare centre.
