LAHORE - The famous Indian film industry couple Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar reached Pakistan through Wagha border on Friday to participate in the centennial celebrations of outstanding poet of Urdu language Faiz Ahmad Faiz. On the occasion, daughters of Faiz including Salima Hashmi and Muneeza Hashmi received the guests. While speaking to media after crossing the border, noted Indian poet, lyricist and script writer Javed Akhtar said he felt a strange happiness after reaching the Pakistan. He said he was unable to share his feelings in words. Shabana Azmi said her father, Kaifi Azmi, shared a great friendship with Faiz. She further said although she had no blood relation with Faiz, but she always thought of him as her uncle. The couple hailed the warm welcome accorded to them. It may be mentioned here that a 17-member delegation of Indian artistes, led by singer Ila Arun had already arrived in Pakistan through the Wagha border to participate in the 100th birthday celebrations of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Meanwhile, books launching ceremony was also held at Alhamra wherein a number of publications related to Faiz including 'Two Loves - Letters from Jail Faiz 'Payam-e-Mashriq by lqbal, translation by Faiz (reprint), 'Faiz Benaam by lftikhar Arif, 'Jinhain Jurm-e-lshq Pe Naaz Tha by Salahuddin Haider, 'Sheeshoun ka Maseeha-Faiz by Ashfaq Hussain, 'Mauzoo-e-Sukhan by Humair Hashmi has been launched as part of the centennial celebrations. On the occasion, prominent speakers including lftikhar Arif, Zehra Nigah, Asghar Wajahat, Salima Hashmi, Ashfaq Hussain (Toronto) and Obaid Siddiqui (India) shared their views about Faiz, the authors, and their books.
