LAHORE Punjab Irrigation Department has completed reconstruction of left spur on river Sindh near Mianwali in a record period of 27 days at a cost of Rs 90 million. The spur was completely destroyed due to flood which the Irrigation Department has reconstructed during the annual closure period of canals by working round the clock. Secretary Irrigation Punjab Malik Rab Nawaz informed that the entire amount had been spent by the Punjab government from its own budget without any assistance from donor agencies or the federal government. He said the project had been completed within shortest possible time and at minimum of cost. He said Irrigation Department would reopen all canals of Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh by March 31. He said work is in progress on rehabilitation projects in the affected districts and Punjab government is relying on its own resources. He further said department was paying special attention to the rehabilitation and positive results of its efforts would soon be witnessed.
