Awareness seminars on iodine deficiency disorders



LAYYAH - Health Department, in collaboration with Micronutrient Initiative Pakistan, is organising awareness seminars at different government and private schools of the district to educate schoolchildren about iodine deficiency disorders, said District Officer Health.
He was addressing the schoolchildren here at a school in Chak 378/TDA and apprising them of iodine and its importance. Iodine Programme District Officer Dr Nisar Ahmed Jhakkar said that Micronutrient Initiative is supporting the Health Department regarding provision of KIO3 & other equipments. He also shared the results of National Nutrition Survey 2011 which shows that the iodized salt usage at domestic level has reached 69pc and Iodine Deficiency especially in children decreased from 23.4 to 2.1.
Micronutrient Initiative Pakistan Coordinator Mudassir Shehzad also addressed the audience and said that the Health Department is trying to achieve the goal of 100pc adequate iodization.
