LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister has warranted strict against those responsible for the Kharak tragedy which claimed the lives of 24 people. He was presiding over a high level meeting on Kharak incident here on Saturday.

He said that a committee has been formed to identify the persons responsible for the incident and action will be taken in the light of recommendations of the committee.

The CM also announced 5 hundred thousand rupees for the heirs of those who have died in the incident; while seventy five thousand each will be given to the injured. He said that the process of financial assistance to the affectees will be completed in a day or two.

The CM said that the Punjab government will also provide jobs to one person from every affected family, and the committee has been directed to recommend the names. The CM had earlier directed the concerned departments to conduct survey of the industrial units being run in residential areas throughout the province and present a report to the cabinet committee so that a comprehensive policy could be evolved to avoid recurrence of such incidents.

Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Member National Assembly Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretaries of Home, Law, Health and Housing departments, Director General LDA, Chairman Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, District Coordination Officer Lahore and other officers were present at the meeting.

The CM said that Kharak tragedy is a heart wrenching incident. He said that the persons responsible for Kharak incident will be awarded deterrent punishment and if any government officers are found involved, strict action will also be taken against them.
