The song Kaun Kehta Hai Mein Beyikhtiyar Hoon was released today, February 12, that is celebrated as Pakistani Women’s Day. It has been sung by Zenab Fatimah and composed by Ali Aftab Saeed of Beygairat Brigade fame. The song is a part of the album “Gao Suno Badlo”, produced by Saad Sultan.

The project is a collaboration of Mishermayl Productions and Aawaaz Programme.

The song is meant as a tribute on Women’s Day and starts with highlighting the achievements of Benazir Bhutto and Malala Yousufzai. Activist Diep Saeeda and Asma Jahangir are also there in the video.

It pays homage to our women who are coping with the inherent biases and misogyny and despite the chains of a patriarchal society are excelling in every field.

The lyrics speak about women chasing their dreams and aiming for the skies.

The song honours those who gathered at Lahore’s Regal Chowk on February 12, 1983 to protest against General Ziaul Haq’s ‘Law of Evidence’ that upheld the testimony of a male as equal to that of two females in a court of law.
