Broken bridge

I am writing this letter to draw your attention towards an urgent matter. Recently a bridge has been constructed over river Ravi connecting Faisalabad and Sahiwal city thus reducing the distance considerably. The road connecting Harrapa road has been widened at places to facilitate heavy traffic by passing Sahiwal city. There is (or was) an old bridge on a drain nullah near Mai di masjid. This has been dismantled, many months ago, being too old to sustain the pressure of heavy traffic. This bridge connects a large number of villages to Sahiwal city. A large number of children and daily workers commute to the city through this bridge. No alternative access is provided except a four feet wide uneven passage what remains of the dismantled bridge, that too without any side protection.
We are facing lot of hardships by travelling extra five to six kilometers to the city everyday, which is an extra financial burden on the poor people. The work has not started, as far as I know, due to a dispute between Highway Dept and Irrigation Deptt as the drain belongs to Irrigation Dept. They say the funds for the bridge have been diverted to Lahore for obvious reasons.
Can someone responsible take notice of it and help us before God forbids a serious accident takes place.
FAIZA BASHIR,
Sahiwal, January 2.
