KARACHI-Veteran TV, film and stage actor Qazi Wajid passed away here on Sunday.

He was admitted to hospital following cardiac pain on Saturday.

Born in 1944 in Gwalior, India, Qazi migrated to Pakistan with his family and settled in Karachi, where his father was allotted a quarter on Martin Road.

Qazi was one of the most senior actors of Pakistan who started his career from Radio Pakistan. He worked for radio for 25 years.

He started off his career in 1965 from a children’s programme in radio and had acted in more than 100 television plays. Qazi was a great supporter of bringing creative talent in Pakistan film industry. He encouraged the newcomers and advised them to learn from the veterans, which he, considers as the beacon of knowledge.

The Government of Pakistan had honoured him with a Pride of Performance Award in 1988.

In the realm of television plays, he was considered a trendsetter and revolutionary.

The actor gave stellar performance in many hit drama serials including Tanhaiyan, Dhop Kinare, Mehndi, Khuda ki Basti, Ankahi and many more.
