LAHORE - National Vocational & Technical Training Commission Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema’s book ‘Do Tok’ was launched at a ceremony at Alhamra on The Mall on Sunday.
Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Justice (Retied) Allah Nawaz, Dilwar Chaudhry, Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture Director Dr Sughra Sadaf, Amjad Islam Amjad, Lahore Arts Council Director General Atta Muhammad Khan, Nawa-i-Waqt News Editor Dilawar Chaudhry, Akhuwat Founder Dr Muhammad Amjad Saqib and lawyer and law professor Waleed Iqbal were present on the occasion. Sofia Baidaar moderated the event. Old friend of Zulfiqar Cheema, Shehbaz Sheikh, said Cheema had been an upright person in his career and his columns were worth reading. “Despite the fact that his elder brother, Justice (Retired) Iftikhar Ahmed Cheema, was a member of the National Assembly from Gujranwala, Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheeam kept meritocracy on top. He did not do any sort of favouritism,” he said.
Shami praised the issues Cheema had written about.
Dr Sughra Sadaf said Cheema was a committed government officer who maintained the culture of merit throughout his life and now through his columns he had been calling a spade a spade.
Former CCPO Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed said the book as well as the book writer had some charisma. “We have seen many people around us who have been making claims and there are a few people who actually do what they say. Despite all efforts PML-N candidate was defeated in by-elections in Gujranwala when Zulfiqar Cheema was regional police officer there,” he said.
“He talked and preached democracy. Besides him, another man, Usama Warraich who lost his life on 7 December 2016, changed the fate of Chitral, as he was deputy commissioner there for a short span of time,” he said.
Dilawar Chaudhry said he knew Cheema since 1990s and he always considered him a teacher in column writing. Express Editor Latif Chaudhry said Cheema’s columns have remained up to the mark and they depicted the socio-cultural and political commentary with a strong conviction.
