Five persons were killed in a collision between two Lahore-bound cars here on GT Road near Mansoor Wali in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to details, one Zulfiqar, a resident of Shahdara (Lahore) returned from Malaysia and was on the way a rental car (UV-228) from Islamabad Airport to Lahore (Shahdra). Meanwhile four friends namely Muhammad Ashraf, Taseer, Bilal and another in their Suzuki Mehran (SLS-3289), residents of Hafizabad were also on the way back home after paying respect at the shrine of Bari Imam in Rawalpindi. When they reached near Jandial Dhab Wala both the cars collided with each other and subsequently struck against roadside trees due to speeding. Resultantly Muhammad Ashraf, Taseer and Bilal, travelling in the Mehrn car and driver of taxi namely Umair Gul, 35, a resident of Rawalpindi died on the spot while fourth rider of the Mehran car suffered critical fractures and died in Gujranwala hospital. While Malaysia-returned Zulfiqar also sustained severe head injuries and was shifted to Lahore due to his precarious condition.

Rescue workers of Dawatul Irshad along with the Motorway Police and Rescue 1122 handled the situation and shifted the dead bodies and injured to THQ Hospital Wazirabad while an injured was taken to DHQ Hospital Gujranwala by Rescue 1122 where he succumbed to Injuries.
