Bandits rule the roost in district Chiniot in 2013 as crime rate registered a sharp increase during the year as compared to 2012.

According to details, a rapid increase was witnessed in motorcycle lifting across the district and the police arrested 2,325 proclaimed offenders during the corresponding period.

Talking to the media, the DPO office spokesman disclosed that during 2013 at least 2,325 proclaimed offenders involved in incidents of robbery, dacoity, murders and other heinous nature crime were arrested besides 974 court absconder and army deserters were also arrested during the period.

Similarly, under the Illegal Arm Act, at least 774 cases were registered and 16 Kalashnikov, 96 rifles, 227 carbines and 689 cartridges were also recovered from them.

The spokesman said that 874 cases were registered under Narcotics Act and 137 kg of heroin, 43 kg of charas, 71 kg of opium, 6,662 bottles liquor and 52 working distilleries were unearthed during the correspondence period.

The district police also registered 73 murder cases, 4 attempt of murders, 10 dacotiy, 4 rape, 162 cattle-lifting, 56 motorcycle lifting and 84 canal water theft cases during pervious year.

The public and social circles expressed deep concern over the poor performance of the District Police and worst law and order situation particularly in the limit of Saddr Police, Rojoyia, Bhowana, Barrana and Kandiwal police stations.
