OTTAWA - Kaetlyn Osmond will take a substantial lead into the free skate after winning the women's singles short programme at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships on Friday. The 18-year-old, who is coming off a string of injuries, was awarded 70.30 points at the Canadian Tire Arena. Former Canadian champion Amelie Lacoste was second after compiling 61.27 points while 15-year-old Gabrielle Daleman (58.38) was third heading into Saturday's free skate final. Osmond skated her 1960s-inspired performance to the tune of "Big Spender" and "Rich Man's Frug". She dominated both the technical and performance marks. Osmond finished eighth in last year's world championships. But the past four months have been a struggle for her because of injuries.–AFP
