KASUR/LAHORE - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Maqsood Ahmed Bhatti along with his three personal guards and a passer-by was gunned down by unidentified assailants near Kasur toll plaza on Saturday.

Police said that Bhatti, who was the PTI ticket-holder for PP- 175 in the last general election, was murdered for personal enmity; however, details would only be revealed after a thorough probe into the incident.

According to Kasur DPO, some gunmen opened fire on the car of the PTI leader who was travelling with his three personal guards, near Kasur Liliani Toll Plaza. Resultantly, all of them were killed on the spot. Bhatti along with his personal guards Muhammad Yaqoob, Babar Ali and Muhammad Khalid was on his way from his village Daffto to Kasur.

A passer-by also sustained injuries in the attack. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but he succumbed to injuries. The bodies were moved to Jinnah Hospital Lahore for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, dacoits shot dead 25-year-old son of PTI Women Wing President Neelum Ashraf on offering resistance during a road robbery in the Nishtar Colony area, collected cash and valuables and escaped after leaving the youth in a pool of blood on Ring Road in Lahore.

Police claimed they were investigating the killing keeping in view various aspects of the incident. A police officer said that, apparently, it seemed the youth committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple. The youth was found shot dead inside the car as the police reached the crime scene.

The victim, identified as Nauman Ashraf, the son of PTI Women Wing President Neelum Ashraf, sustained serious bullet wounds and died on the spot, police investigators say. Nauman was on his way home in a car when four gunmen on two motorcycles intercepted his vehicle on Ring Road Saturday afternoon.

As the youth tried to flee, the bandits opened straight fire at him from a point-blank range, sources said. The police reached the crime scene when the robbers had escaped. The body was removed to the morgue for autopsy while the police are investigating the case with no arrest made yet. The wedding ceremony of the youth was scheduled next month, a family member of the deceased told reporters at the city morgue.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Imran Khan condemned the murder of Neelum Ashraf’s son in Lahore and said the incident had established the fact that the provincial capital had become a hub of criminals as the rulers had failed to protect life and property of the masses.

In a press statement issued Saturday, Khan said the daylight murder was an example how unsafe the provincial capital was where criminals were looting and killing innocent people freely, but the PML-N government was least concerned to protect people’s lives and properties.

Meanwhile, top PTI leadership has appointed Ejaz Chaudhry, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Andleeb Abbas, Shafqat Mehmood, Dr Murad Ross and Shehneela Rott as the party spokespersons for the province. Ishtiaq Malik and Irfan Ahmed have been nominated as the party programme coordinators for Punjab.

Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed said in a statement that the ongoing power and gas loadshedding had rendered life of the masses miserable, but the rulers were busy plundering the country.
