Reactivate National Security Council: Mush

KARACHI - Former President and Chairman of All Pakistan Muslim League (AML) Rtd General Pervez Musharraf has demanded for giving a constitutional role to the army for complete eradication of terrorism and taking the country on the path of development.
He was talking to APML Secretary General Dr Mohammad Amjad at his residence here on Sunday. He said that during his tenure he formed the National Security Council for army’s role in security and other issues so that there was complete understanding between the politicians and the army on critical issues and they could debate openly on any issues including internal and foreign affairs as well as national security matters.
The former President emphasised that National Security Council is the only institution which can play an effective role to improve the working of the government. He pointed out that in the past several governments could not deliver because they made the National Security Council ineffective. He said if this institution is kept viable, many hurdles in the way of national development could be overcome and bringing an end to uncertainty in the country.
During the meeting matters relating to organisation of the party and political situation in the country came under detailed discussions.
General (Retd) Pervaiz Musharraf said the country today needs more unity than before and if we are to protect and secure the country, the army will have to be given a constitutional role. He stressed for speedy trial and sentences to terrorists and pointed out that dangerous terrorists were arrested in the past but were never given sentences. He said it was because of delay in the execution of sentences awarded, that terrorists got encouragement.  He said military courts are necessary for speedy trial of terrorists.
On return from Karachi, Dr Mohammad Amjad told media persons that the former President is keeping a close watch on the evolving situation in the country and interested to play his role for the well being of the country and its people.
He said General Musharraf would have an importing role in the future.
He said the APML fully supports the Pakistan army and the government to cleanse the country from terrorists.  He also demanded immediate opening of educational institutions to save the precious time of children.  
Dr Amjad also asked the government to have pity on the citizens of Islamabad and complete Metrobus project at the earliest to save the people from pollution and enable traders of Blue area to resume their normal business activities.
