ISLAMABAD-Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership on Saturday disowned claims of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani – that the previous government had made a deal promising safe passage to the former President Pervez Musharraf in exchange of his resignation.

The claim was first rejected by PPP leader Jehangir Badar and now by Farhatullah Babar. Senator Farhatullah Babar said that Musharraf was only given an option between resignation and impeachment, adding that no other deals were made.

Babar said that both PPP and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) were agreed upon Musharraf’s impeachment.

He said that the committees of both the parties decided to impeach the former President, following which, Musharraf resigned.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister from PPP platform at the time, Shah Mehmood Qureshi termed Gilani’s statement correct saying that former President Asif Ali Zardari had made deal with the establishment.

He claimed that the deal was endorsed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif which is why Musharraf received guard of honor in his farewell.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rasheed alleged on Saturday that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) wanted to give constitutional protection to former President Pervez Musharraf but Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) came in the way.

Talking to media in Lahore, Pervaiz Rasheed said PML-N came in the way of the PPP-led government when they were trying to give constitutional protection to Musharraf.
Pervaiz Rasheed said even Musharraf never claimed of getting a safe passage.
