Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said 250 employees of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) have been terminated over corruptions charges.

Talking to this agency here, Abid Sher Ali said those officials who were serving at the same stations for long periods, are transferred. He said all-out efforts are being made to make Wapda corruption free.

The Minister of State for Water and Power told this agency that 42 officials were demoted and promotions of 28 employees stopped who were facing different charges. Those terminated include superintendent engineers, executive engineers and SDOs of the department, the state minister added.

Speaking about Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent visit to Russia, Abid Sher Ali said that the visit remained successful and termed it historic. The PML-N government is pursuing policy of development and prosperity, he claimed, adding that the granting of full membership to Pakistan by Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is the result of government’s prudent policies. Answering a question, he said the complaints of electricity customers are addressed on priority basis and officials concerned are directed to cooperate with the customers. Any staffer found to be negligent during duty hours will have to face the music, he warned.

Talking about the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, he said that the provincial ministers are involved in corruption and ministers are arrested over corruption charges which have raised many questions to the claims of good governance in the province.
