NA speaker hints at reference against NAB chief

LAHORE - National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday warned the National Accountability Bureau chairman not to underestimate the powers of the lower house of the parliament as it could bring a reference against him.
According to a TV channel, the speaker said NAB’s performance was not satisfactory, adding it was being monitored by the Supreme Court. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq alleged first the NAB arrests the people and then institutes cases against them. The speaker claimed that over 150 NAB cases are being hushed up while a number of parties are settling liabilities of billions of rupees. He questioned who will hold the NAB accountable, adding the NAB is keeping silent on the corruption of billions of rupees. A committee can also be formed to consider this matter, the speaker said.
To a question, he said if the PTI MNAs returned their salaries, the amount so recovered would be deposited in the government treasury.
