Mirpur police have arrested four accused involved in the recent street crimes of purse of cell phone snatching in various parts of the city.

Senior Superintendent of Police Raja Irfan Salim told reporters that the arrested accused included three local lads and an Afghan national holding an Afghan registration card.

A special police squad headed by DSP city Raja Azhar Iqbal and comprising Inspector Naseer, Sub Inspector Zaffar Haider Shah and ASI Amaar Dar raided the hides of the accused and arrested four of them. One of their accomplices Dafter Khan Pathaan is still absconding and police are after him to nab, the SSP said.

The police recovered eight mobile phones and other stolen goods including cash of Rs300,000, gold ornaments, passports, ATM cards and other valuables from the custody of the accused, according to the SSP.

The accused were identified as Musaadiq of Sector B/5, Hussnain Khan, an Afghan national, Rashed Mahmood of sector B/5 and Afaq Ahmed of Kalayal locality of the city.

Irfan Salim said that the arrested accused, aboard motor bikes, were involved in some recent incidents of snatching purses from the ladies besides snatching cell phones from the pedestrians mostly at night hours. Police also recovered and confiscated two motor bikes used in the offences.

Cases have been registered against the arrested accused and further investigations are in progress. The SSP said that police have further been put on high alert and made vigilant to discourage any such street crime in the city and rest of the district.
