SC imposes ban on admissions into private medical colleges

Supreme Court (SC) while imposing ban on the admission into private medical colleges has remarked that the admission will remain suspended unless uniform policy is framed .

The hearing of private medical colleges fees structure suo motu notice took place in the SC on Thursday.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar gave remarks that we have to frame central system for admission in medical colleges. There are loopholes in present admission system. Court has made it clear that fee in medical colleges will not be more than Rs. 850,000 and there should be appropriate profit on admission fees.

CJP further observed “ this judicial proceedings isn’t against any medical college. We are seeing this case in the interest of people ."

Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told court “FIA has returned Rs 745 million to the students after recovering this amount from medical colleges. The recovered amount of 745 million was taken under the head of fees last year”.

CJP remarked “ there is ban on admission in the medical colleges . There will be no admission in medical colleges unless court orders are withdrawn."

Judicial proceedings will prove beneficial for the medical department while admission will remain suspended unless uniform policy is adopted.

The courts adjourned further hearing till 23 July.
