ISLAMABAD (APP) - The government has allocated Rs. 67679.690 million for Power sector under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the Financial Year 2008-09. According to PSDP 2008-09, an amount of Rs. 7500 million has been allocated for Neelum Jhelum Hydropower project, AJK. Similarly, Rs. 5000 million has been allocated for 800MW Guddu Steam Power project while same amount has been allocated for 425 MW combined cycle Nandipur power plant. The government has allocated an amount of Rs. 62419.98 million under PSDP for Water Sector. Out of total amount, Rs. 18000 million has been allocated for raising of Mangla dam. An amount of Rs. 8500 million has been allocated for Kachhi Canal (phase-1) while Rs. 2500.00 million has been allocated for lower indus right bank irrigation and drainage Sindh. Meanwhile, the government has earmarked Rs. 36821.559 million in the PSDP 2008-09 for the Communications Division for its various ongoing and new projects while Rs 36500.000 have been allocated for National Highway Authority (NHA). According to the budgetary allocations, out of total amount, Rs. 26755.997 million is local component while Rs.10065.562 million is the foreign component. In the PSDP 2008-09,total of 19 ongoing projects of Communications Division, Rs 321.559 million has been allocated. In these 19 projects 11 belong to National Transport Research Centre (NTRC). Rs.32470 million have been earmarked for 55 ongoing National Highways Authority (NHA) projects with Rs 22404.438 million local component and Rs 10065.562 million foreign loan component. For 14 NHA new projects Rs 4030.000 million have been allocated with no foreign aid component.
