ISLAMABAD The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is establishing the first ever Liver Transplant Centre (LTC) with the total cost of Rs 400 million. Talking to this news agency here Wednesday, the CDA official informed that the decision to establish Liver Transplant Center was decided in a meeting held recently. The meeting was chaired by Chairman CDA, Kamran Lashari and attended by CDA member planning, member finance, senior director health services, surgeons from various hospitals and institutes and kidney patients. In the meeting the chairman asked to formulate a strategy for the establishment of LTC. For this a committee was constituted which included Dr Saeed Ahmed, Senior Director Health CDA, and Professor Nadeem, Liver Transplant Surgeon. The committee was asked to submit the feasibility report to the authority's high-ups within two weeks. The exact cost of the LTC would be estimated by the committee constituted to prepare feasibility report. The civic body health officials said that presently the number of Hepatitis A and B including liver disease patients is rapidly increasing.  "There are about 16 million Hepatitis and liver patients, of which 4 million immediately need liver transplant but adding to the miseries of Pakistanis there is no single transplant center in the country", the official added. However, it is of deep concern that only in the federal capital the number of people suffering from various liver diseases is more then 0.1 million out of which 20,000 need liver transplant.
