LAHORE - Punjab University Model United Nations (PUMUN) Society and the Student Teacher Centre (STC) organised a 3-day workshop on 'Model United Nations' here at new campus from June 05-07, 2008. The workshop was aimed to educate the students of the varsity about the concept of Model United Nations. More than 160 students from 35 departments participated in the workshop. The General Assembly (of students) discussed 'Future of Iraq' and UNDP discussed 'How to Eradicate Opium from Afghanistan. Addressing the closing ceremony, which featured mock simulations of the General Assembly and UNDP, Chief Guest PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said that it was high time that students start learning about new concepts like Model United Nations. He said participation in MUN conferences is an experience, in which students will learn art of crises management and conflict resolution. Students by acting as ambassadors of countries as varied as Portugal, Libya, Uganda, and Chile will learn a lot about the way other countries want to resolve world problems. He referred to recent successful tour of Punjab University Model UN team, which won two awards at Model UN conferences in Germany and Netherlands this year. Dr Kamran expressed his satisfaction and gratitude towards the work of Punjab University Model UN Society for spreading the knowledge about MUN to other students of the varsity. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab University Model UN Society Coordinators Mian Naqib Hamid and Syed Nishat Kazmi thanked the vice-chancellor for his support towards co-curricular activities in the university particularly Model United Nations team.
