DHAKA - The national selection committee will meet next week to deliberate on the selection of the team for the Asia Cup to be held at Karachi and Lahore from June 24 to July 6. The committee is expected to make a few changes keeping in view the performance of the team in the Tri-nation series being held in Mirpur, Dhaka. India defeated Pakistan here by record 140 runs margin and are also favorites for the final this weekend.. An official said that the selection committee was in a fix over how to find a winning combination especially after defeat against India. "We persist with experienced players in crucial events to maintain the winning sequence but the performance of the team has compelled us to look for other options and a few changes for the Asia Cup are on the cards," the official disclosed. "A detailed discussion will be carried out in the selection committee meeting and they will present a list of 17 players to the PCB for further approval," he said. "The meeting is also likely to discuss skipper Shoaib Malik's recent performance because they are not taking the 53 runs by the all-rounder a big achievement and there might be indication for the skipper to give his fullest or ship out," the official added. He further said that in the presence of senior players Muhamad Yousuf, Younis Khan and Misbahul Haq, there was no room for other players but these three have to take things seriously and start performing. "There are only two batsmen Nomanullah and Bazid Khan who performed well recently but are not of the class of these players, which is great concern for the committee," the official added.
