SIALKOT - A seminar on 'Export Development through Cluster Development Programme' was held at SCCI. A large number exporters participated in the seminar. Speaking on the occasion Director General TDAP Waheed Raza Bhatti said that over the last decade, awareness about the importance of industrial clusters and its instrumental role in the promotion of economic growth has been recognised widely. As a result, emphasis on cluster and network development has increased both in developed and under developed countries, he pointed out. He said that keeping in view the importance of cluster development TDAP along with UNIDO initiated cluster development project in Pakistan in July 2001 and initially five clusters were identified in Pakistan like Electric Fans (Gujrat), Cutlery (Wazirabad), Readymade Garments (Lahore), Leather and Leather Products (Karachi). President SCCI M Ishaq stressed the need of reviewing the performance of cluster development programme being carried out in Sialkot. Industries of Sialkot are mostly based on SMEs and exporting sports goods, surgical instruments, leather and textile products, martial art uniforms and accessories, musical instruments etc through which the city is earning $1.2b annually.
