ISLAMABAD Over 15,000 athletes took part in the qualifying round of the first Islamabad Youth Games 2010 which will commence from June 14 here at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex. An official of the organising committee said on Friday that the event was being organised by the Federal Directorate of Education in collaboration with the Islamabad Olympic Association (IOA). Initially, competitions on the different six games held in different seven zones, he said. Now, selected players and teams will vie each other in the six disciplines including football, hockey, table tennis, volleyball, badminton and athletics during the four-day games. Event of school girls and boys will be concluded on June 17 at the same venue, he said. Replying to a question, he said that likely Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani would grace the opening ceremony as a chief guest. Cash awards will also be distributed among the best athletes at the closing ceremony, he added.
