Karachi- Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch has said the PPP-led previous government had to suffer a lot politically just because of its reconciliation policy towards the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. He called the MQM a fascist group which according to him is often used by the establishment as per political requirement in Sindh. He demanded the same constitutional rights for the Election Commission of Pakistan like the Supreme Court of Pakistan is enjoying.
He said this while addressing the All Parties Conference hosted by Jamaat-e-Islami with the theme of “Fake election mandate and peace of Karachi,” at Idara Noor-e-Haq here Tuesday. The APC unanimously passed a couple of resolutions demanding the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto action against the ECP for not holding free and fair elections in Karachi. The APC also demanded the ECP to hold re-election in Karachi and Hyderabad and take action against ‘Thappa mafia’ for depriving people of their basic right to vote. It also demanded the newly-elected government to immediately remove Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan from the post.
Presided over by Liaquat Baloch, the APC was attended by leaders of various political and religious parties including Taj Haider (PPP), Nadir Laghari (PTI), Asadullah Bhutto (JI), Birjis Ahmed (JI), Ghulam Shah of Sindh United Party, Bacha Khan of Pakhtunkhwah Milli Awami Party, Matloob Awan of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek, Mehfooz Yar Khan of Awami Muslim League, Mustaqeem Noorani of JUP, Mazhar Rahoja of PAT, Basharat Mirza of Pakistan Democratic Party, Afzal Sardar of Jamiat Ahle Hadith and others.
Baloch said that engineered election have once again robbed public mandate which is really a joke with the people of Pakistan. The said the MQM is used to be the part of government, and the current unrest is created by the party so that it could be get share in the government.
The JI general secretary said the PML-N in Centre and PPP in Sindh should take serious steps to restore peace in the country, particularly in Karachi. “Political parties in the light of their previous experiences should take right decision in the best interest of the people”, he added.
Citing statement of the APC held in London, Baloch said the meeting had decided the MQM was not a political party but a terror group, adding the establishment used the MQM for creating pressure on the incumbent government. He said the Sindh governor should resign, as he was responsible for disturbing peace in the city adding conspiracy to dismantle city peace is being hatched at the Governor House. He demanded the PML-N government to appoint unbiased Sindh governor. Holding the Sindh governor responsible for lawlessness in Karachi, Baloch demanded his dismissal and appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo-moto notice in this regard.
PPP leader Taj Haider said that all parties should unite against terrorists adding the PPP wanted to strengthen the democracy in the country. He said the ECP has violated rules and regulations in new delimitation. The PPP leader demanded the Election Tribunal to take notice of the rigging in elections.
PTI leader Nadir Akmal Leghari said that time has come when all parties should unite and play its active role to bring the country out from crisis. “Those who are talking to break Pakistan are not sincere with the country, adding that patriot political and religious parties should come forward and play their due role,” he added.
