ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday confirmed three additional judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and extended tenure of four additional judges of the same court by one year.
In another order, the President also approved extension in tenure of six additional judges of Sindh High Court for a period of one year.
President Zardari issued these orders on the advice of the prime minister.
The additional judges who were confirmed as judges of the PHC include Mr Justice Nisar Hussain Khan, Mr Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth and Mr Justice Qaiser Rashi.
The additional judges whose tenure was extended include Mr Justice Asadullah Khan Chamkani, Justice Mrs Irshad Qaiser, Mr Justice Shah Jehan Khan Akhunzada and Mr Justice Roohul Amin Khan.
The summary received in the Presidency said the nominations of the additional judges of Peshawar High Court were received on May 25 from Secretary Judicial Commission of Pakistan, Islamabad for confirmation by the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment in Superior Courts. The Parliamentary Committee, due to lack of quorum in its meeting on 3rd June, could not take formal decision within the stipulated time period of 14 days, hence under Clause 12 of the Article 175-A of the Constitution, the nominations sent by Judicial Commission were deemed to have been confirmed.
Under Clause 13 of the Article 175-A of the Constitution, the nominations deemed to have been confirmed were subsequently forwarded to the prime minister for onward submission to the President for his approval.
Accordingly, the President on Tuesday accorded his approval to the confirmation of Mr Justice Nisar Hussain Khan, Mr Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth and Mr Justice Qaiser Rashi as judges of the Peshawar High Court and to the extension in tenure of four judges for a period of one year as additional judges of the PHC.
Meanwhile, President Zardari on the advice of the prime minister has also approved extensions in tenure of the six additional judges of Sindh High Court for a period of one year. The judges whose tenure was extended include Mr Justice Syed Muhammad Farooq Shah, Mr Justice Farooq Ali Channa, Mr Justice Aziz-ur-Rehman, Mr Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar, Mr Justice Riazat Al Sahar and Mr Justice Salahuddin Panhwar.
